A couple of cryptic social media posts on 7th January 2016 sent tremors of excitement through the UK circus and spinning community, as well as further afield.

If you don't know, Play Festival is the UK's biggest circus festival with its main focus on spining arts like poi and staff. All circus and spinning disciplines are represented, from juggling to aerial, diabolo to slacklining. There are usually dance and martial arts workshops too.

Due to complications with the venue Play 2015 was cancelled and there was no news about Play 2016... until now.

Late last night (7th Jan) one of the main organisers of Play Festival posted in the official Facebook group. The message was rather enigmatic:

"Hey diddle diddle,

Play crew have a riddle

We are totally over the moon.

We are jumping with glee.

Why? You will see,

More details to come very soon........."

That message seems to imply that Play will be back in 2016 but where and when we don't know yet. There was another cryptic message from the organisers. This one wasn't posted in the main Play group but we have eyes everywhere (mwhaha!)

The post simply read:

"227 sleeps..."

Assuming that post was also Play related, it puts that date at Sunday 21st August 2016. Remember, all this is purely speculation but that could either be the date of the last day of Play or the date the crew arrive on site (or maybe Play is going to be a week long this year?) We're guessing it means Play 2016 will either run over the weekend of the 20th/21st August or the weekend of the 27th/28th August.

I wouldn't book your holiday time just yet, though. Keep your eyes peeled and focused on the Play Facebook group for the latest news, and, of course, right here where we'll also report the latest updates.
