A rich history

The Kendama toy's true origin is disputed, but it found its modern name in Japan. The Japanese evolved the Kendama beyond its roots as a simple cup and ball toy. Many tricks still have Japanese origins, so the toy's different elements have Japanese names.

After a surge in popularity in the 2000s, there are now players and competitions worldwide. The Kendama World Cup takes place annually in Japan, a nod to their overwhelming contributions to toy design and the evolution of tricks.

The Tama (ball) is coated with our signature banana peel paint, with a glossy finish that balances shine, resilience, and grip.

Playing with a Kendama involves tricks that catch the ball on three cups and even spike! All tricks are variations on this, and the variety is nearly endless. Kendama skills can rapidly develop into very complex tricks!
