Spinning plates are great circus toys for children and are often one of the first circus props young kids try in circus skills workshops. Spinning plates are also very cheap meaning they make excellent birthday or Christmas gifts for small children. Don't let they're low price deceive you though, the plastic they are made from is very durable. We also have aluminium spinning plates which are more suitable for performers. The spinning plates for sale here all come with a stick included but you can also buy spare or replacement spinning plate sticks here.
The easiest way to get the plate spinning is to simply pop it on to the stick and push the plate round with your hand. You can then practice balancing the stick and spinning plate on your hand, finger or even your face. The next step up is to hang the plate from its lip on the stick. You then make big circles with the stick until it goes horizontal. By making the stick circles increasingly smaller and faster you can get the plate spinning really fast and it will shift the stick to the centre of the plate. There is a knack to this technique but it gives children (and adults) a good lesson in circus skills; you need to practice to learn a skill but the rewards are great!
As well as that important lesson spinning plates, and circus skills in general, help to develop hand-eye co-ordination, balance and confidence all while going something physical and active.
